Fancy Dinner Party

The other night we, my sister and I, decided to throw my niece a "Fancy Dinner Party." Ariana and I had talked about it a month ago or close to and we said we could have a nice dinner and dress up and do our hair and make-up. So we did it. We got "fancy" and had a coursed meal and just had fun. It was a little difficult as we were cooking and serving ourselves. I tried to get Bill and Chris to serve us since they didn't dress "fancy" but no luck. I was going to make them sit somewhere else too, but in the end they sat with us in their "normal" clothes.

We started our meal with a soup and salad course. We then had our main course which consisted of grilled chicken topped with a ricotta and cream cheese sauce and topped with bacon with homemade macoroni and cheese and broccoli. We then had dessert, brownie cups and ice cream with chocolate syrup. It was very good and filling. We will probably do something simpler next time becuase we were having to cook and serve and try to enjoy ourselves too.

We spruced things up with items from the dollar store. Plastic wine glasses, filled with cider of course. Perfect for kids. We also picked up some plastic plates and dishes as well as some nice paper plates. I think we did pretty well. Here are some pictures. Can't wait to do it again!

Christmas

Christmas came and went. As always I feel like I'm preparing for it when it starts getting closer and I've got so much to do and then it's gone in a flash. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels that way. I tend to stress about what I'm buying for Christmas and who I need to buy for and what money I have to spend. All that was the same this year except I was actually done with my shopping and wrapping in a timely manner. I wasn't still doing presents Christmas morning like I did last year. It was nice and I should try getting all of my stuff done before the rush at the stores. It was so much nicer to be able to just relax Christmas Eve....ok well mostly. Bill and I did have one present that we had to wait until everyone was asleep to wrap and bring downstairs. Note that we did have it already. We'd had it for almost a month sitting in our room hidden!

This year was our first taste of a split Christmas. The last couple of years Bill has gone and spent Christmas with his family including getting up early and being there with his kids when they open presents and then I'd see him late Christmas night and we'd open our presents from each other together. This year was different. He and I opened gifts with my family Christmas morning and then we both went and picked up his girls and spent time with his family.
It was nice because over the last few months I've spent more time with his family and it was    great to be able to spend some of the holiday with them and be a part of what they do.

We had Christmas dinner with my family. We had the whole bunch there except for my Aunt and Uncle and two cousins, CJ and AJ. We missed them dearly, would've loved to have them there but with AJ still going through his Chemo and people being sick it wasn't worth risking his health. We all love each other and understand, we'd rather have him healthy.

This was baby Aiden's first Christmas. He didn't know what was going on but that's ok. His grandmother, Chris, his father's mother, her husband and Chris' brother came down and had Christmas dinner with our family.

It was really nice having everyone there and spending Christmas the way we did. Next Christmas we will switch it up. Can't wait!

I can't forget the wonderful present Bill gave me. Of course all I really want his him. He's all I really need. But to my surprise and delight I opened up this little brown box and found this. A beautiful necklace and earring set. Sapphires that are absolutely stunning! They really are gorgeous and my favorite color too. Although he can't recall that this was my favorite color he said he chose them because the color would look beautiful on me. I'll take that any day! What a great loving guy I have!
